Meat Sauce

It’s hard to make Meat Sauce look photogenic, but I think I did okay.

Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef
1 onion, chopped
5 cloves of garlic, minced
1 small bell pepper, diced
1 can diced tomatoes (28 ounce)
1 can tomato sauce (16 ounce)
1 can tomato paste (6 ounce)
2 heaping teaspoons dried oregano
2 heaping teaspoons dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Cook beef in a frying pan. Transfer beef to another container and cook onion, garlic, and bell pepper in a large saucepan. Add beef when vegetables are cooked.

Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Add seasonings, then simmer sauce for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally. While the sauce is simmering, cook pasta – I like using fusilli because it has a lot of surface area for sauce. Combine pasta and sauce when ready.

This recipe makes a big batch, serving six or so – and also freezes well.
